overview
Super Hubby was created as part of a Color Theory course to demonstrate how color relationships influence visual communication.
Beginning with a black-and-white portrait of my husband, the photograph was manually vectorized using only four values of gray to establish depth, contrast, and form before color was introduced.
The completed illustration was then transformed into multiple compositions using monochromatic, complementary, analogous, split-complementary, double-complementary, and triadic color schemes.
Each variation explores how different color harmonies dramatically change mood, emphasis, and visual impact while maintaining the same underlying artwork.
challenge
Understanding Color Beyond Aesthetics
The objective was to explore how color relationships influence emotion, hierarchy, and visual perception.
Starting from a single grayscale illustration, the challenge was to create multiple compositions that demonstrated different color harmonies while maintaining consistency in form and readability.
creative process
The design process began with manually vectorizing a portrait using four values of gray before exploring two distinct poster compositions. Each concept was then developed through six color harmony variations to examine the impact of color theory on hierarchy, balance, and visual expression.

final
solution
The final design transforms a hand-vectorized grayscale portrait into a vibrant series of color-driven compositions that demonstrate the emotional and visual impact of color theory. Through thoughtful typography, bold composition, and carefully selected color harmonies, the project communicates how a single illustration can convey dramatically different moods while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.
